Community West Legacy Foundation is excited to introduce a new scholarship opportunity into our local communities. The Legacy Scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers for students, allowing them to focus on their studies and future careers without the heavy burden of educational expenses.
Community West will award the 2026 Legacy Scholarship to three students for the fall 2026 semester: three individuals planning to attend or currently attending a college/university, trade, or vocational program. This student can be an upcoming High School graduate, or a current college/trade/vocational student.
This scholarship aims to acknowledge and reward individuals who align with the pillars the Foundation was built upon; Community Development, Financial Literacy, Empowering Youth, and Advocation of Human Rights.
Three Grand Prize Winners: $2,000 scholarship each
The application window opens October 15, 2026.
No membership required. Eligibility is limited to high school seniors, current college students, or current trade school students who live or attend school in Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, or Ottawa counties. There is no age limit for applicants. The application and essay must be completed by the individual who is applying for the scholarship. These scholarship funds may only be used for an undergraduate college/university, trade, or vocational program. Funds will be disbursed at the discretion of the credit union prior to the beginning of the academic year. The application deadline is 11:59 PM on Friday, March 20, 2026.

2026 Legacy Scholarship Recipients
Alisa, a East Kentwood High School graduate, is a 2026 Legacy Scholarship recipient. She was selected for her outstanding leadership, volunteer service, and dedication to empowering youth and supporting her community. While excelling as a student, she served in the National Honor Society, Student Council, the Athletic Leadership Council, and varsity cheerleading. She also coached Rocket Cheerleading, volunteered in elementary schools, and attended Kent County Career Tech Center to further her education in healthcare. This fall, Alisa will be heading to Michigan State University to study Human Biology and continue making a difference through healthcare and community leadership.
Bethlehem, a current student at Grand Rapids Community College, is a 2026 Legacy Scholarship recipient. She was selected for her academic achievement, perseverance, and commitment to serving her community. While pursuing her studies, she participated in the college's Honor's Program, volunteered at community events including the Grand Rapids African American Arts and Music Festival, and mantained an accomplished academic record. Inspired by her own experiences, she is passionate about supporting young women from disadvantaged backgrounds. After graduation from GRCC with honors, she plans to continue her education at Grand Valley University, where she will pursue a degree in Psychology and work toward a future career as a therapist.
Cecilia, a student at Aquinas College, is a 2026 Legacy Scholarship recipient. She was selected for her strong financial responsibility, work ethic, and commitment to building lifelong financial literacy skills. As a commuter student, she balances her part-time job with a full academic schedule and applies practical budgeting strategies to manage college expenses. Through years of work experience and personal financial education, she has developed strong saving habits, budgeting skills, and a thoughtful approach to financial independence. This fall, she will continue to pursue her degree in Art at Aquinas College, where she plans to continue growing academically while building a stable and successful future.
